Jim Serrett holds degrees from Southern Illinois University and Vincennes University in painting and drawing. He has been an instructor at the college level and worked professionally as a commercial and fine artist, enjoying a career as a pictorial artist producing advertising art, murals, and illustration. These days, Jim concentrates on fine art work, mainly working in oils and charcoal. Jim and his wife Linda live near Murphysboro Illinois, where they spend their spare time kayaking and hiking the beautiful Southern Illinois forest and waterways.
“I would define my works as realism, because I am interested in depicting the subjects I choose to paint, as I see them in nature. I am fascinated by the way things look, painting is for me about the art of seeing. The truth is, very little does not get me thinking about painting and all the ways to interpret the world around me visually. I love image making and working with oils, there is something magical about the medium that is nearly transcendental. I enjoy the process and the craft of working with oils, a medium whose techniques dates to 15th century. That heritage and methodology really resonates with me." |
