A Fine Arts Graduate of SIUE December of 74 with a BA in Painting and a minor in drawing I found that my career direction ended up in creative commercial graphic design and illustration. Upon graduating college and having to pay the bills as if by destiny the positions I held over the last 37 plus years were in the creative arena. I was drawing and painting as an Illustrator and Graphic Designer, however the subject matter often was not very inspiring. I worked on my fine art as I found time, and applied my creative talents to drawing and painting for print and interactive communications.
In my last position I was designing and illustrating for multi-million dollar performance improvement, recognition and loyalty B2B/B2C programs for fortune 500/1500 companies. Many of my original paintings and drawings are now in the offices and homes of many high level executives. Many of the projects were paintings of travel destination subjects and/or subjects that denote motivation, famous historical figures. My career did however have a great upside to it, giving me years to sharpen my drawing and painting skills. Working on hundreds and hundreds of projects over the years allowed me to experiment with a variety of media and creative tools. Currently I am working mainly in transparent Watercolors, though I have plans to also get back to painting in Acrylics and Oils. In addition to painting I have always had a love for drawing, just simple pencil on a good quality paper like Rives BFK. Drawing is the foundation upon which to build or it can be a standalone finish work of art. After Retiring from my previous career I have put all my creative efforts into my fine art and I became a part-time Adjunct Instructor Teaching Adobe Creative Software Applications, illustration, at the college level along with my painting and drawings studio time. As the owner of DSHCreative LLC - Graphic /Web Design and Illustration I still take on a freelance project occasionally, though now I am very selective, strictly illustration work that has an inspiring and interesting subject. I can then approach the project from a fine art perspective. The client is coming to me for my vision. |
